Good question! They sell the clothing separately. As far as I can tell, they're not selling the dolls or the clothing for much more than they would cost together (although, now that the AMW Barbie is sold out, they could). I'm guessing that people who want to keep the doll in the box for collectible reasons buy the Barbie as it is normally sold; and those who want to pose and play with their Barbies, like any little girl would, care less about having the original outfits?
